Kya Love Story Hai (PG)

Starring : Kareena Kappor, Sujata Kumar, Tusshar Kappoor
The film is set in an Indian province, far removed from Democracy and where Human Rights violations are a common occurrence. The film itself follows a large family, with typical family problems, that has some sort of grudge against what could be said to be a rival family. Because of this there is an element of impending revenge about to be exacted at any point.
Kareena is the young lady with the problematic love interest which involves a young man from the rival family mentioned above. Because of this pressure she is desperate to run away with her intended, from school. As if things couldn’t get any more tense, Kareena’s father is a corrupt police officer, but can seek some sort of support from her mother. The family isn’t typical by any stretch of the imagination as they are quite well off, and obviously, police officers don’t get that much money by legitimate means only.
It’s a well paced film where the story keeps building towards the inevitable and obvious conclusion. As well as being about romance, there is an element of social comment regarding corruption. The music, to be expected, is Indian, and, as expected, is regular.
As for the camerawork, it isn’t in the same league as say Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, but it does do the job rather nicely with some nice landscapes thrown in for good measure.
The characters were likeable, with some good acting from this Bollywood stable. All in all I enjoyed this film but realise that maybe not everybody will like it.
