Joe Satriani - Black Swans and Wormhole Wizards

Joe Satriani is one of rock music’s most renowned electric guitarists, and has announced details of his highly anticipated 14^th studio album, Black Swans and Wormhole Wizards (UK release date – 4^th October 2010). On the new album, Satriani’s classic sound is accompanied by a surprisingly rich new texture. The first single "Light Years Away" is destined to be a hit, alongside several other high energy offerings, like “Wormhole Wizards” and “Premonition.” Produced and recorded by Mike Fraser (AC/DC, Metallica), Joe is joined once again by veteran Satriani drummer Jeff Campitelli, alongside newcomers Mike Keneally (keyboards - Frank Zappa, Steve Vai) and Allen Whitman (bass guitar - Mermen). The release dovetails nicely with Satch’s autumn 2010 UK tour, which kicks off on October 17th at the Manchester Apollo.

Joe has been a hugely influential force on modern day rock guitar music. Earlier in his career he taught Steve Vai, Kirk Hammett (Metallica), Alex Skolnick (Testament), David Bryson (Counting Crows) amongst many others. His instantly recognizable style has gained a legion of fans who enjoy his stylish guitar chops that avoid over indulgence, but despite his legendary status he remains a modest man. Satriani was inspired to play guitar at age fourteen soon after learning of the death of Jimi Hendrix, and is quoted as saying that he had heard the news during a football training session, where he then confronted his coach, and subsequently announced that he was quitting to become a guitarist.

As well as producing his own solo masterpieces, in 2009, Satriani joined with former Van Halen front man Sammy Hagar, former bassist Michael Anthony, and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ drummer Chad Smith, to form the stand-out rock collaboration, Chickenfoot. After a highly successful world tour, their self-titled debut album was certified gold in the US by the Recording Industry Association of America with over 500,000 sales.
