A great summer scheme has been running at Huncote Pavilion (since 19th July) for young people aged between 5 to 14 years old. The scheme is run by Blaby District Council and it was started this year (2010), and so far has proven to be a success.

The days start at 8.00 am and finish at 5.00 pm. Young people get a variety of choices of activities each day, with types of sports and games on offer changing each day. There are 5 (technically 8 if youinclude breaks etc) sessions in the day. The first session starts at 8.00 am and ending at 9.00 am is affectionately called early risers. These first sessions usually have on offer things such as Arts and Board Games, a nice gentle way to start!

The day continues with 4 hour (ish) sessions offering; Swimming, Dodge Ball, Badminton, Football, Parachute games, Squash, Rounders, Kwik Cricket, Hula Hooping, Dance Mats etc. We even had a guy in to teach us the Ukulele!! That was quite fun! The sessions are led by experienced leaders who are friendly and approachable (occasionally getting involved too!).

The sessions are good value at around £8 a day, and all the equipment hire is included in that price too.

One parent said that “The Pavillion holiday club is a fabulous environment for children of all ages. It’s safe, fun, and affordable childcare throughout the summer. I’m really delighted to have found it. The staff there are very friendly and make you feel welcome. Keep up the good work!”.

I asked them what they thought of the sessions because they obviously were having great fun

Antony said “I think it’s a great experience for other young people and if you’re an adult or parent and want some time to yourself then send your child along, and they can have a fun time. And it’s great value”

Sophie said “I think it’s a good experience because people get to have a go at games and sports they might not have played before, and it’s a place where you can make new friends too!”.

We would like to thank Antony and Sophie for writing this article and for taking the photographs too!
