Harry

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 has already broken the box office records for the amount of money it has received in its opening weekend - £108 million. But is the film all that it is cracked up to be?

Okay bad things first – Draco looked about sixty in the epilogue part of the film when he was only supposed to be about thirty five and Alan Rickman looked like he’d had a bad face lift when Harry was looking at the perceived memories.

However the rest was pretty good. Alright the story line was a little thin on the ground – they find the last few horcruxes and there’s the battle but the action was interwoven with light humour (even from McGonagall believe it or not) and soft spoken conversations between the rest of the characters. A couple of new scenes were threaded in at the beginning to highlight the changes at Hogwarts and an extra scene somewhere in the middle, once again of the paradox that is Severus Snape.

Voldemort even seems human in this one. As he learns that Harry has been destroying horcruxes Fiennes brings a tortured anguish to the once infallible Dark Lord.

Even with acting that had stepped up to the next level from all the young actors, superb special effects and moments that will make you want to cry, and others that made you laugh out loud I don’t think the film is everything that the media has made out. Alright it was good, almost very good but I think the media have given it a greatness it doesn’t quite deserve just because it is the final film. The cinematography was artfully done, the music was brilliant, but there was still something of an adrenalin rush that it didn’t quite have.

For instance you don’t actually see much of a battle going on in the foreground as we follow the golden trio running around looking for the last couple of horcruxes and going off to find Voldemort when he kills Snape. In this I think the producers missed a great chance to raise the audience’s heart beats and make the finale all that we expected it to be.

Overall a good film that does the book justice but not as good as it could have been.
