Goodfellas – The Harmony of Love EP Review

Goodfellas

Firstly, Goodfellas are a very new to the scene band. For those of you that are uneducated in the likes of Goodfellas, they are a Post-Hardcore band. This is a crossover genre of both hardcore and progressive rock. Not many bands in Leicester have gone for a similar sound, ultimately giving Goodfellas an advantage.

Goodfellas are:

- Sam Gent - Vocals
- Shane Coles - Drums
- Jack Davis - Bass
- Ashley Wheat - Guitar

But enough about the nitty gritty. It's time to talk about the music!

The Harmony of Love is the band's first EP released. They have also released tracks from the album such as "To Lose Something Great You Need To Have Something Great" for streaming and download. Signed to Robot Needs Home Records, they carefully crafted "The Harmony of Love" EP with producer Jamie Ward (Park Farm Studios).

Personally I really like the EP, Post-Hardcore portrays a lot of emotion to its listener, and Goodfellas do not shy on that. The lyrics are superbly written and the guitars very much carry the sense of emotion which is being portrayed from the lyrics and vocal style. The shouts and singing of the album aren't perfect, but it doesn't hold the music back in any way, it gives the music just that extra bit of realism and heart.

The vocals are accompanied by soft melodies and hard hitting chords, which powers the tracks forward. One of Goodfellas' strongest points is structure. The guitars compliment the structure very well, played alongside soft piano interludes, with clean singing. This keeps the songs from sounding the same and keeps it fresh.

Hardcore at its finest, and Post-rock at it's finest. A beautiful blend of the two. Goodfellas are definitely setting themselves up for success.

You can get a free digital copy of their EP by ordering a ticket for their EP launch show at The Cookie Jar on November 3rd at a mere £3. Hard copies will be on sale for £1 at the EP launch only.

Other than that, the EP will be on sale from November 3rd onwards at £3 pounds a piece.

Goodfellas' debut single(s) is up on youtube and Robotneedshome.co.uk for free streaming.
