GameCityNights episode 7: The GC5 summit
This month’s GameCityNights was an important date on the video game calendar. Gamers, developers and enthusiasts came together to form the GC5 summit.
The GameCity festival is now in its fifth year of running, and promises a week-long celebration of games and game culture. Previous years of the festival have seen Harmonix talking Rock Band to a captive audience, performances from geek icon Jonathon Coulton, a world record breaking zombie gathering and a live recreation of Crysis.
The GC5 summit had their work cut out discussing how to make this year’s festival even bigger than last year, and the GameCity team showed that they had cracked it.
Taking time out amongst the heated debates, festival director Iain Simons presented to the summit teasers for events taking place as part of the festival. Followed by one of the most important announcements of the night.
OpenGameCity is a way for you – yes, *you* - to get involved with the festival. Whether you’re a developer, student, cake-decorator, dog-handler or other game enthusiast, OpenGameCity offers you the chance to take part in the festival to celebrate video game culture with fellow gamers.
Festival director Iain Simons said: “This is a real change to how we develop and think about the festival and we’re looking forward to discovering how it will be changed and extended by the people that care about it.
“The ‘city’ part of our title has always been as important as the ‘game’ to us. We’re hugely excited to be able to explore ways in which the videogame culture can really participate in the life of a city, the Takahashi playground project being our first effort towards that.”
GameCity5 will take place from October 26th to October 30th 2010. Watch this space for more information about events taking part of the festival, as we can assure you that you won’t want to miss out!
