Freefall Felix have only been around since the start of 2006, but if the reception last night was anything to go by, they've already gained themselves a strong fanbase.

They managed to secure supporting slots for bands such as RX Bandits and Spunge before having their first gig...a feat that most wouldn't be able to manage. I think that may be down to the fact that some of the bands members had worked together before forming Felix, and have garnered a reputation that preceeds them.

So, are they any good? The short answer? Awesome!

I was shocked at just how impressed I was, as a self-respecting metalhead, even thinking of going to a ska gig is pure sacrilage. How wrong was I?

After watching the first few bands on, who set off the tone for the night perfectly (whilest throwing inflateable instruments into the crowd), we managed to get right up against the stage for Freefall Felix's appearance.

Which seemed like a good idea at the time, and gave us an undisturbed view of the band...however, it also meant that we were subjected to a manner of bumps, bruises, feet and fists. Good job I'm not easily intimidated.

It wasn't long before my feet were tapping and I was being pulled into some very odd dancing rituals by the person I was there with, which for those who know me, know it takes a fair bit of doing in itself.

It's hard to describe the sound of FreeFall Felix. There's a definate rock undertone to everything, and in some parts you'd be forgiven for thinking you'd wandered into a rock gig. Add in some catchy lyrics and a demanding stage presence, and how far wrong can you go?

But don't take my word for it, ask any of FreeFall Felix's fans. Or have a look at their MySpace and decide for yourself.
