Filthy Dukes 1

It's fair to say Filthy Dukes is one of the best bands you haven't heard of yet. Having been tagged as "electroacidhousenuravetwisteddiscopunkfunk" (if you can say that without taking a breath, I'll be impressed), it's clear that they have some expectations to live up to. And they don't disappoint.

Filthy Dukes started out as Olly Dixon and Tim Lawton DJing at their club-night Kill ‘Em All in London. After their success there, they joined forces with producer Mark Ralph to remix a song for the Rakes and from there went on to produce more remixes and then to begin to produce music of their own.

Which leads us to tonight. Taking the stage at 1am in front of a crowd of happy clubbers, Filthy Dukes show that they can hold their own in a setting that is all too familiar for them. The amount of energy coming from both the stage and the audience is immense.

You could be forgiven for thinking that the set would consist of the guys stood behind different mixing decks for the entire thing, but that's not the case. Having drafted in a drummer, the band are just as fun to watch as they are to listen.

Playing their own club night for so long has given the Dukes a sense of crowd control that never really gives up. It's a world of bass and beats that sucks you in and refuses to let you go for as long as the music holds strong.

Songs from the upcoming album 'Nonsense in the Dark' get the crowd moving like it's the only thing they can do. Songs like Poison The Ivy, What Happens Next, Tupac Robot Club Rock and Absolute Body Control are just some of those that Nottingham is treated to. The highlight of the set, however, has to be Twenty Six Hundred, a song written for the band's favourite synthesizer, and as the name suggests, is a synth heavy instrumental madness that doesn't leave a person in the room stood still.

After a 45 minute set that doesn't feel like any time at all, the band leave the stage amid calls for more. Filthy Dukes is a band that is in its element live, and it is destined for big things.
