Fakebook - Michelle Vacciana

Fakebook is a one woman performance about a mother chasing her daughter and attempting to free her from the cyber shackles of facebook.
Fakebook was what I expected to see in the sense that it did have a message related to the immensely popular social networking site Facebook. After you make that obvious assumption you feel some what prepared, I sat there expecting a rant about how facebook destroys our world. Yet it started, the actress walking in and sitting down as if she was a member of the audience and what followed was an intelligent and gripping theatre piece.
The story takes Facebook from the cyber world, copied and pasted into the real world by a worried mother (not literally!), in pursuit of her daughter Leyonetta from the greasy grasp of who she believes to be a facebook ‘friend’. This friend yet unbeknown to her is a greasy welsh paedophile by the name of Trevor (Make sure you drag out the O).
Fakebook throws some great ideas out there; the use of video in one chase sequence particularly stands out showing our lead running in different directions backed up by a video making for a hilarious chase scene.
Being a one woman performance I was worried it would go stale and lack any diversity between characters yet the acting by Michelle Vacciana in her debut show was amazing, showing an astounding amount of diversity and clarity with her characters, making it very easy to distinguish who’s who and builds some real depth to them. Fakebook was great to watch, a unique experience I won’t forget with a very touching conclusion.
