Single out 2nd November
From the guys that brought you “Pieces” and “Against All Odds” comes the brand new single, “End Credits”, featuring Plan B. The song that is set to be Chase & Status’s biggest hit to date, and is the theme tune for new film “Harry Brown” (released in November starring Michael Caine and a cameo experience from C&S). If this offering is anything to go by, their new album, currently set to be released next year, should be awesome.
The song sees British rapper Plan B ditching his usual screamo-rap for something far subtler: conventional singing. The chance to see his softer side really adds to the endearing quality of the song, which, whilst maintaining the heavy beats and über-fast tempo of your usual dubstep track, offers real heartfelt emotion and meaning in its initial sweeping melody and soft vocals. Inevitably, despite a captivating start (in which acoustic guitar and atmospheric synths create the feel of a modern indie track) it is not until the drum and bass kicks in that the song really steps it up a gear, although it could be argued that the track would have been better suited to the film’s subject matter if it had relied solely on the simplicity of the atmosphere and the lyrics rather than giving in to the conventions of your typical dance floor hit. But then it wouldn’t be Chase & Status would it?
2008 saw the band’s debut album “More Than A Lot” selling over 60,000 copies, and with the infiltration of dubstep into mainstream consciousness this year, Chase & Status (dance/electronic production duo Saul Milton and Will Kennard) have gone from strength to strength, playing head-turning gigs at this summer’s festivals, being championed by Radio 1 DJs Fearne Cotton and Zane Lowe, and securing a spot on the bill for The Prodigy’s massive Milton Keynes gig next summer.
Their versatility and ability to amalgamate D&B, hip-hop, dubstep, electronica, grime, dance and even indie music so seamlessly is what makes these guys stand out. Edgy and stylish, the duo’s production skills are highly sought after, with their portfolio from the last 12 months including remixes for Jay Z, White Lies and The Prodigy. With collaborations with Rihanna currently in the pipeline, we can expect big things from Chase & Status in the future.
The duo are just embarking on an epic 31-date tour of the country, with a few trips across the channel along the way. Go to www.chaseandstatus.com for more details and to purchase tickets.
