Drake

Take Care; Canadian rapper and singer Drake's second studio album has definitely become a hit amongst the masses of supporters and fans around the world. We can see from the album going platinum that his hard work and efforts have definitely been rewarded. The album was due to be released on Drake's birthday – October 24th, however on October the 8th, he announced on his October's Very Own (OVO) blog that the date would be pushed back to November, this was due to sample clearances of three songs (Practice, Cameras and Take Care.) The album was leaked nine days before the scheduled release date on November 15th 2011, but this didn't stop it from gaining its platinum status.

The success of Drake's debut album titled 'Thank Me Later' selling nearly 500,000 copies within its first week was definitely something for him to live up to. One of Drake's closest friends both personally and musically; Noah '40' Shebib produced songs for both of his albums. His melancholic touch and nostalgic symphonies have been taken well by Rap and Hip-Hop fans.

The opening song titled 'Over My Dead Body' gets the album started off with Drake luxuriating in his own success whilst laughing at his haters. This in turn grabs the listener's attention, especially with the chorus sung by Chantal Kreviazuk, having connotations of his fame trying to leave him, but he won't let that happen; Over His Dead Body. The four singles, 'Take Care, The Motto, Make Me Proud and Headlines' have also stormed the charts and television with phenomenal success, especially 'Take Care' featuring Rihanna, it reached number three in the UK R&B chart.

In my opinion, the whole album is a huge success and I could easily sit for hours listening to it from beginning to end, if I had to choose a favourite however I would probably choose 'Doing It Wrong' as it has a special feature – Stevie Wonder. The slow soul touching feel combined with Drake's smooth vocals and lyrical strength gives the song a nice feel and anybody can relate to it. Also the outro of the song features Stevie Wonder on the harmonica, adding another layer of musical brilliance. Take Care has definitely kept me happy from the first moment I heard it. The features on the album are massive and really do show how far Drake has come as an artist and a person; it follows on from Thank Me Later nicely, also showing off that Drake has a lot more to offer.

10/10
