A Christmas Carol Review

A Christmas Carol is ready for a reboot this time courtesy of those brain boxes down at Disney, and a certain Jim Carrey. A Christmas Carol is based on the classic book written by Charles Dickens and is adapted by Robert Zemeckis gloriously to our screens, in spectacular 3D CGI animation with astounding realism delivering full emersion into the world of Ebenezer Scrooge.
A Christmas Carol is the story of a grumpy, penny pinching larger than life character by the name of Ebenezer Scrooge (Jim Carrey). Scrooge hates Christmas from the turkey to the tree despite attempts by his nephew (Collin Firth). Needless to say something has to be done, and he is eerily foretold of the visit of three ghosts, but can they change his mind?
Carrey is back on top in Zemeckis’ Christmas Carol delivering a serious and at times dark role, with a bit of added Carrey spice serving up some interstellar voice acting, and just goes to show you never lose it. This revamp is brimming with style offering animation so good it makes the real world look outdated, and under the guidance of Cast Away and Back to the Future trilogy director Robert Zemeckis gives us a visual spectacle coupled with a time old story we won’t easily forget.
Overall, it’s a quality film but not quite what I expected, carrying quite a sinister edge to it. Some classy voice acting and out of this world animation ensure the legend of Ebenezer Scrooge holds up in the 21st century. If you fancy a Christmas tale this holiday season then I highly recommend you see A Christmas Carol. What are you waiting for, the visit of three ghosts?
