Train Heartnet used to be an assassin for Chronos, a secret organization that rules one third of the world’s economy. In order to maintain a balance in the world, there are thirteen assassins who work for Chronos. Train was the thirteenth assassin and is famously known as “Black Cat.” However he decides to abandon that cold-hearted existence after realising that he can use his gun to stop his victims, rather than killing them which coincidentally, causes disturbance within Chronos. Train leads an easy going life as a bounty hunter with his partner Sven Vollfield. Through their adventures, they meet an infamous thief called Rinslet Walker, a young girl with extraordinary powers called Eve and many more interesting characters. However, is Train’s past as far behind him as he thinks?
The story and art of Black Cat are by a manga artist called Kentaro Yabuki, who is best known for this series and his mentor for Black Cat was Takeshi Obata, the artist of Death Note and Hikaru no Go. The series was published by Shonen Jump for English readers and is complete with 20 volumes in total. The series was adapted into an anime by studio Gonzo and consists of 24 episodes. Black Cat fits under the genres of fantasy, adventure and science fiction.
On the whole I think that this manga series is a good read and I like the artwork by Yabuki, as it improves during the series. I believe that overall it has a good plot line which develops as more is unfurled throughout the volumes. Black Cat is very humorous, including the characters who compliment the manga well.
