Big Deal - Lights Out Review

Kacey Underwood and Alice Costelloe reminisce beautifully over times of adolescent heartbreak in their debut album "Lights Out".
Big Deal's stripped-back vibe floats peacefully over the top of crying guitars, lazy voices and simplistic, yet heart wrenching lyrics; expressing mortification in a way that even the most depressed poetic prodigy would have trouble in attempting to convey.
"All I wanna do is talk / But seeing you *** me up" - perhaps the most poignant protest on the album, gives "talk" the power to pull any listener back down to the reality of numb, sleepless nights and lovesickness. Later on, heartbreak-driven hallucinations are portrayed marvellously again in "Visions", the tenth track on the album, through the median of stunningly simple harmonies and more powerful lyrics. Their plea - "I don't wanna see these / Visions of you" is striking, yet sinister.
Overall, a phenomenal first effort – the future certainly looks as though it's going to be brighter than the heartbreak they already seem to have endured, for Big Deal.
