Lord Mayor's Christmas Concert

Herrick Road based Leicester-Shire Arts in Education has a long history of putting on fantastic concerts, and this year was no exception. Featuring around 500 young people from around Leicester and Leicestershire schools, colleges and Youth performance groups, the Lord Mayor, Roger Blackmore, was treated to some excellent performances of singing, dancing and orchestral music. As the children started to take their seats on stage, an expectant hush fell across the packed out hall.
The evening opened with Leicester-Shire Arts in Education Junior Strings, followed by the County's Intermediate Strings and Intermediate Band, performing some Christmas favourites along with some more contemporary songs such as “Yellow Submarine” and “Somewhere over the Rainbow”. Special mention should also go to the combined choir who sat patiently on stage for their big moment, and when it came to their massive rendition of “12 days of Christmas”, there was a well deserved rapturous applause for their excellent performance.
De-Montfort Hall has always been an excellent venue, be it for Graduations or Rock/Pop concerts, and provided a brilliant sense of occasion for the talented young people on stage. As well as it being an incredible experience for the young people, proceeds from the event will go towards city youngsters to Mablethorpe Children's Holiday Home on the Lincolnshire coast.
After the concert there was nothing but praise for the professional performances delivered by the young people, and for the support shown by the staff from Arts in Education and De-Montfort Hall. If you missed the concert this time round be sure not to repeat the mistake next year!
