Amy MacDonald - Gig Review

Amy Mc Donald

During the trip to the Nottingham Royal Concert Hall I didn’t really know what to expect. I’d heard some of her music before, I’d heard how highly rated she was yet even as the support act began their set I still didn’t know what to expect from the Glasgow girl. As soon as she came on stage and started singing I knew exactly what I was getting

She hit the ground running overflowing with energy and enthusiasm, the audience were loving it. From the first note her vocals were like a David Beckham cross or in her case a Darren Feltcher cross - absolutely pin point. This fiery Scottish tempest blends a whole range of music with influences being heard from rock to country, with an incredible Glaswegian twist.

It was a fast paced energetic show broken up with some more mellow emotional songs that hit the heart. I also really liked the way she broke up the set sharing some great anecdotes between songs, giving more depth and strengthening the connection with the audience. There was a great one about her ironic appearance on a Swedish fashion show singing a song about inner beauty.

Her stage was set perfectly, blinding lights at one point and incredibly strong colours leaving a silhouette behind her. It fitted the energetic pace and helped build a great atmosphere.

During my time snapping pictures of both Amy and the support act I managed to get a bit of feedback from the audience who clearly rated her stratospherically high and at the end of the show so did I. The best part of the show was the acoustic set and that one solo song really showcased her amazing voice, and in my opinion she should have stopped there would have been a great way to end. However I loved the show. She has an amazing voice, and if you haven’t heard her music definitely give it a go.
