Alexx Calise - In Avanti

Alexx

In Avanti is Alexx Calise’s second solo album and has been widely anticipated in the US and it’s quite clear she should be recognised here. The rock album is packed full of fantastic numbers such as Anything Goes, Cry and Out Of Sight.

Most of the songs are an interesting combination of rock with small elements of electronica (known as rocktronica to the music savvy types out there) in the introduction and choruses giving a greater texture to the emotion of the songs creating ever evolving music that you just want to hear more of. The music coupled with her enticing voice and distinctive vibrato (that’s the wicked-cool wobbly bit of her voice for the not so music savvy types out there) make the whole album unique, new and refreshing.

The first song Anything Goes bravely begins with electro and gradually brings in the electric guitar and drums in steady succession with Calise being the last person to join and complete the music. Cry, the only ballad of the album, is in perfect juxtaposition to the rest of it’s counterparts allowing the listeners to hear the beauty of Alexx’s voice when it’s reined in allowing us to appreciate the soft emotion she can convey. Out of Sight however is not to be outdone by Cry and begins with electro and evolving into piano with subtle electro flares seems sure to dominate the song until guitars take over allowing the angst of the song to take over.

Catchy lyrics and a style that’s had her likened to a ‘female version of Linkin Park’ make for one of the best albums around. Honestly, one of the best albums I’ve ever heard!
