Amazons Young Women's Project

Amazon young women's project started in 1999 in response to discussing issues that affected the lives of young people. High on that list of issues were crime and bullying. A group of young women decided to do something positive and make an awareness raising video and work book looking at both issues that could be used by youth workers with young people. The project was also funded by Crimebeat (a national charity which supports young people's contribution in citizenship projects that improve their communities).

The video project was a huge success and the young women went on to work with Age Concern on a project focusing on personal property safety. The group have been supported throughout by Leicestershire County Council Youth Service, Charnwood Borough Council Community Safety Partnership and Crimebeat and have received numerous awards and commendations for their
work

Previous Visit to the Gambia

Amazons went to the Gambia in January 2007 having raised enough money to put a roof on Madiana school. They were met by 300 members of the village and 300 children from the school.. The Amazons did lessons with the children who were aged 10 - 16yrs and they also managed to take school stationary which had been donated by the group and Boston Promotional gifts.

It was a very moving experience for the group as they met young people who had no possessions and lived in absolute poverty. One group member said it had changed her life and she wrote an article for a national youth work magazine.

AMAZONS START NEW FUND RAISING WAVE!!!!!

Amazons have returned from the 2008 visit to Gambia and have now linked up with a special needs school in Gambia called Hart House. The school are desperate for everyday things such as disinfectant and everyday cleaning products.

As part of our project to help schools in Gambia we are holding another charity auction the auction will take place on:

JUNE 14TH 2008 @ MOUNTFIELDS LODGE YOUTH CENTRE 1PM ONWARDS.
THERE WILL BE A CHARITY AUCTION, CAR WASH, TOMBOLA STALLS, BBQ AND LOTS OF OTHER STUFF HAPPENING!!!!!!
SO POP ALONG AND BID ON A BARGAIN.

WE ARE GRATEFULLY RECIEVING DONATIONS AT THE YOUTH CENTRE OF ITEMS TO AUCTION OR RAFFLE/TOMBOLA ALL PROCEEDS WILL GO TO HELPING 2 SCHOOLS IN GAMBIA.
